Myspace Invaders: The Sixty Ones
Geschrieben von Bernd

New Bands discovered by UK-Agent Ian.

The Sixty Ones are made up of Jono (vocals), Tel (guitars), Rich (drums) and Jase (bass, vocals). I first heard about them a couple of weeks ago when they got in touch with me by friend request. I tried out their music and decided it was worth a review. Under influences they simply state 'we're influenced by any record we couldn't put down from the 60's to the present'. They have not been signed yet however they seem to be on track for that. They hail from the London area and seem to have been around for about just over a year (at least on MySpace).

Now for my review of the songs they decided to put on MySpace....

Track 1: Call Me Out
Intro reminds me of The Libertines, when the song kicks in proper I can also hear the Courteeners. The vocals remind me of Gomez in there gravely sound. It is a nice punky pop song that gets into your head, a real ear worm. (9/10)

Track 2: Not Much Variety
Again I am reminded of Gomez at least in the vocals. Has a sixties sound I also get a touch of Arctic Monkeys. The playing is well coordinated making this a tight number that gets everything across in less than three minutes. (7/10)

Track 3: Life Aint As Pretty
A slower number, a bit of a sad song really, quite mellow. Things speed up a little for the middle eight. Reminds me a lot of The Faces. Another catchy song with its repetitive coda. (8/10)

Track 4: Things You Do
I love the guitar work on this one, especially from the lead it really brings the track to life. Makes your heart beat faster when you listen to this. With a lot of motivation factor its really nice song. (8/10)

Conclusion: Undoubtedly the band has posted some catchy songs here. Their tunes are well composed and the lyrics are clean and upbeat. There really is a great early sixties pop song vibe about their songs. I hope they put out some recorded work soon and I am curious to hear how their sound works live.
