Billy Corgan ist zurück. Hier ein Konzertbericht von unserem schottischen Auslandsreporter Bantha Junior Soprano
Once upon a time there was a band called Smashing Pumpkins, they were young and great … and the singer had hair in his head. The drummer was incredible, the guitarist was half American / half Oriental and the bass player was one of the coolest female in the rock scene. This band is still alive and kicking after nearly 20 years in the music scene. The new line up has just two of the original members but they still know how to put a great show on…they rocked the Academy for two and half hours… the problem with a band like the Pumpkins is that you never know what to expect, there is no point to check their setlists before going to the gig because they always change. And last night they just chose to play an awkward setlist (although we did get Drown, Silverf**k and Starla which was worth the ticket price alone) They rocked hard, too hard at some stage (I could have done with less of Billy’s experimental guitar riffs to be honest) but then when you hear classics like Bullet with Butterfly Wings, Today, Starla, 1979, Zero you just cant stop jumping and singing and think how amazing they are. There were no Disarm, no Cherub Rock, no Mayonaise, no Adore, no Stand Inside Your Love (I still think that’s one of their best songs ever but Im one of the few who loves Machina as an album). They played loads from Zeitgeist, not their greatest album (but we all know that they will probably never be able to do another Siamese Dreams… ) but the audience went mental all the way through. Although Billy admitted not to understand a word of the Scottish accent, he has to admit Glasgow is really the place with the best audience… otherwise he would have picked somewhere else to play for their 2nd only UK gig (apart from the festivals).
