The Verve Reunited -Live in Glasgow Ein Bericht von Junior Soprano
If somebody last year would have told me I would have seen The Verve back again on stage I would have laughed… and loud! But it happened… 6 months ago they announced 6 dates in UK “for the pleasure of play together again and have fun” as that seems the right way to say “we need money”. I was lucky enough to get a ticket for the first Glasgow date (which, coincidentally, was the first date of their tour), the first time the 4 of them together on the same stage after 9 years since they split (for the 2nd time as they split in January 1995 just before History was released). Anyway… let’s say the gig was good but not great. Why? Because there was tension on stage, Richard was tense and if Mad Richard has got something wrong, you can feel it straight away… Don’t get me wrong, his voice was incredible and the sound was just perfect, the setlist was pretty good and I was there.. .that was the best thing. There were no support band, they started at 9pm with “This Is Music” and ended at 10.45 with a never ending “Come On”… the disappment came when the lights came on… no “History” and no “A New Decade”. It could have been a perfect gig… that’s what I said the gig was good but not great. I should have gone on Saturday as well but honestly I didn’t want to pay another 40 quids (i.e. 60 euros) as I have already few other gigs lined up. But the intro to “Bittersweet Symphony” sent shivers to my back!!
The setlist was:
'This is Music' 'Sonnet' 'The Sun, The Sea' 'Weeping Willow' 'Life's An Ocean' 'Space And Time' ‘Sit And Wonder’ (new song) 'Velvet Morning' 'Catching the Butterfly' 'A Northern Soul' 'The Drugs Don't Work' 'The Rolling People' 'Bittersweet Symphony'
'Man Called Sun' 'Lucky Man' 'Come On'
